May
20th - Mpls. Public Library Grand Opening
Grand Opening of the new downtown Minneapolis library, designed by Cesar Pelli. The interior is handsome,
inviting, exciting and beautifully detailed, with great sightlines and a center atrium that forces you to stare heavenward.
From brushed-steel door handles to dramatic cantilevered stairways, vertigo-inducing glass-walled bridges and carpet colors that
vary by floor, Pelli's first public library looks like an updated classic. There's maple paneling for miles, gorgeously paired with green
glass, concrete and steel. The views of the city, especially a wall of glass that looks back to the City Hall tower, are smashing.
The design gives special status to children and teens, who each get spaces tailored to their needs.
